What Qualities Are Needed For Self Employment

Self employment does seem to be quite fascinating and one of the best ways of leading your life, but just pause and think – are you really cut out for self employment? There are people who can do quite well being self employed and there are people who just cannot get into the drift. So, where do you fit in?

Here, I list the kinds of people who I think will never do well in a self employment opportunity. These categories are taken from the top of my head, and there will surely be some more of them. But these are good enough to give a preliminary idea of the kind of person you need to be to become self employed.

1. If you do not have any kind of drive to create your own thing, then you are better off in a daytime job. Self employment is not for you. All self employment opportunities, whatever their nature might be, require you to create. You have to have at least some talent in you that common people do not have. You should be able to create things, and then love them enough to let others partake in your creation.

2. You have to be money-minded. If you are just thinking of entering into a self employment opportunity without any head of business, you are doomed. This is because the entire onus of expenses and investments will fall on you. You will have to sometimes bargain with your clients and get good deals. You have to have those talents.

3. Every person in a self employment venture needs to be a task manager. Oftentimes, the burden of managing a lot of responsibilities will fall on your shoulders. You will have to look after not just the production, but you will also be responsible for the promotion and the investment. So, you have to have good skills in managing all these kinds of works at once. You will need to allocate different times of the day for different purposes.

4. This is very important, though not often said – you will have to have affection for your own self employment venture and you will have to nourish it like a baby. You don’t have to do this in a job, because someone else has already established it. So, can you muster enough love and affection for the business opportunity you are giving birth to? You might have to sometimes spend long hours on it, do things that you don’t like much, and even stretch yourself to the limit. Be prepared for all this.

Contrary to what newbies feel, self employment is not a piece of cake. You need to have specific qualities to do good here. As I said before, there are some people who have natural talents to be self employed and then there are those who cannot be self employed unless they learn and improve.

Green Careers More Than You Think

Some say that the takeover of the House of Representatives and several state governments byRepublicans in November of 2010 spells doom for green careers and a clean energy future. However, let’s be fair: President Obama had a two-year window in which he could have acted aggressively to move the country toward sustainable energy.

Sadly, instead of acting like Franklin D. Roosevelt, he chose British prime minister Neville Chamberlain as a role model and pursued a policy of appeasement. And frankly, since 2006 too many Democrats in Washington D.C. revealed themselves as being firmly in the back pocket of Exxon-Mobil, BP and the rest.

The bottom line: if we as the people of the U.S. and the world are to see a clean energy future free from the tyranny of Big Oil, we can expect very little help from our “elected” officials, who anymore are bought and paid for by global corporate interests to serve the wants and demands of the very rich.

As fossil fuels become increasingly scarce and difficult to obtain however, it will be necessary to make a transition toward sustainable energy alternatives, if only for our survival.

In the meantime, at least in more progressive and forward-thinking regions of the U.S., green careers will be growing. According to the U.S. Department of Labor, some of these that are in more immediate demand include bus drivers, railroad engineers and streetcar operators. As the cost of motor fuel continues to increase, it is likely that Americans, however reluctantly, will be increasingly led to give up the use of private automobiles and turn to mass transit solutions. Interestingly, the construction industry will be another growth industry as the demand for new, green construction and the retrofitting of older homes and buildings rises.

Thinking further down the road, some of these green careers include some occupations that relate to wind and solar energy technologies only indirectly. One of these is the job of public relations specialist, whose job it will be to counteract thirty years of corporate media propaganda and convince the general public that a sustainable energy future is in their best interest. There will also be a need for what will be known as CSOs, or “Chief Sustainability Officers” who will supervise and coordinate green energy projects and the organizations charged with implementing them.

Requirements For Us Expats For Filing Income Tax Returns

Living outside USA will not get you rid of the requirement to file annual income tax returns. Citizens and US green card holders are required by law to file their tax returns each year even if they have stayed outside United States or have not generated any income in United States of America. They should continue to file their returns same as when they were living in US if their annual gross income as an individual is in excess of $ 9,350 or $ 18,700 when filing as married jointly. The filing of tax return by expats is also required to claim any tax benefit including foreign earned income exclusions or foreign tax credits. Let us further study these requirements.

There are some special provisions in place which are applicable for expat taxpayers to make it convenient for them to file their returns. The filing of state tax returns may not be due but it is still mandatory for all of them to file their federal tax returns to Internal Revenue Service (IRS) department.

Let us first understand that filing of a tax return doesnt mean that necessarily you have to pay something to the tax authorities. As an expat you can qualify for foreign earned income exclusion in Form 2555. This means an expat earning in excess of $ 100,000 can still pay no taxes in US. In case you have paid any foreign income taxes you can claim tax credits of the equivalent account.

US expats have several options on where they have to send their tax returns. In case where no income tax is due they can file by mail addressed to IRS, Austin, TX office. In the case where you have tax dues you need to mail the return to IRS, Charlotte, NC office. American tax payers can also submit their returns at the nearest consulate office. Special extra time of six months is also provided to the expat taxpayers in order to file their returns. They usually have to file their returns by 15th October every year, this six months extension is automatic and one doesnt need apply to avail it. A simple form 4868 is supposed to be filed by this category of taxpayers.

One always also has a choice of electronically preparing and submitting their tax returns from an off shore location. This method has proven to be more efficient and less cumbersome.
